Convertible Car Seats |
| Once your baby has outgrown their infant seat, the next stage seat will be the convertible car seat. It is called a convertible because it can be both rear or forward facing. A child should be kept rear facing until they are at least 2 years old, so convertible car seats from Britax, Diono, and Maxi Cosi all go to higher rear facing weight limits. A higher capacity seat also allows a child to be kept in the five point harness longer and thus remain safer. Car seats from Britax and Diono can be tethered in both rear and forward facing modes, thus improving their crash performance. The convertible car seat stays in the car, so if there are multiple cars, then parents will need multiple car seats. This seat is usually larger than the infant seat, so a large seat is often not the best option in a small car. The convertible car seat is used longer than the infant seat, so it is important to choose wisely. A good choice here can make all the difference when you need it the most.
